At Suceava Genebank, the collecting of old local potato populations (Solanum tuberosum L.) led to build a collection that is maintained in the experimental field. The distribution area of these varieties is reduced year by year, the material being obtained during numerous exploration and collection missions undertaken in 22 counties and over 170 villages.
Solanum tuberosum L. collection, consists of 264 genotypes, of which 254 originated in Romania, and 10 were received from Hungarian farmers, under a bilateral project conducted in collaboration with the Genebank in Tapioszele, Hungary, during the years 2008 - 2009.
